April 1, 2016 | The cast of "Grey's Anatomy" has grown since the end of season 11. Joe Adler plays the new part of Dr. Isaac Cross, who is an intern at Grey + Sloan Memorial Hospital. In our interview Joe Adler kindly answers our questions about his character and his career so far.

How did you get into acting in television?

My whole family is part of the industry in some capacity. I guess it was always in my blood. In elementary school, I did some intro theatre classes which then transitioned into doing all the plays in high school. A professional opportunity presented itself in my senior year and the ball rolled from there.

Have you settled in on the "Grey's Anatomy" set already? How does it feel to be the new guy in such a long-lasting show?

Everybody on the "Grey's" set is really lovely and made me feel at home from the get go. It's so cool to be a part of a television show that will go down in TV history. I definitely don't take that for granted.

It seems like Isaac has a major crush on Jo. Do you believe that there is going to be a love story between them? Are you rooting for them?

Yeah Isaac definitely has a crush on Jo. It's up to Shonda and the writers to decide if that ever amounts to anything. As Isaac, I inevitably share Isaacs interests. Having said that, I'm excited for any creative door to be open, whether that be something else for Isaac on "Grey's Anatomy" or for other characters on different projects.

What do you think the future has to offer for Isaac? Where do you see him in five years? Is he still that nice guy or do you believe that he will change?

Isaacs future could go a variety of directions. Again, that's up to the writers to decide. Isaac will always be a nice guy, but I don't think he'll always be quite so naive.

There are a lot of medical terms you have to use. Did you ever play a prank to one of your friends, using the medical stuff you learned on the show?

Nope. My friends aren't that smart.

Would you some day like to work behind the camera and be a director?

Perhaps some day. The thought of that overwhelms me presently. I just started writing some stuff though, so we'll see how that goes first.

What are the biggest and / or most challenging differences between your roles on "Grey's Anatomy" and the one you played on "The Mentalist"?

The biggest difference is obviously the fact that one is the FBI world while the other is the medical world. It's a different set of life circumstances that changes the vibe and importance of everything my characters do. The medical jargon is challenging, but so was the legal jargon on "The Mentalist".

What one thing would people not know about "Grey's Anatomy"?

That those surgery scenes often take all day if not multiple days to shoot.

In season 12 Denzel Washington joined "Grey's Anatomy" and directed episode #12.09 The Sound of Silence. Could you talk a little bit about working with him?

Working with Denzel was surreal in that I never thought I'd work with such a talented, well-respected movie star when joining "Grey's Anatomy". He left a mark on everyone there and turned out a great episode.

You played Zart on "Maze Runner". Please tell us a little bit about the survival training and the overnight camp-out that the cast completed before shooting.

Before we started shooting, we had a week of "training" where we were taught some basic exercise/survival skills by a couple members of the Army. They were lovely guys who ran a very relaxed "boot camp" for us. This was to get us in shape and hopefully help us convey to audiences that we looked like we could survive in the wilderness. We camped overnight in "The Glade" and it just so happened that a massive storm hit in the early hours of the morning. So we had a good time up until about 4 am. ("Maze Runner" review)

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy traveling the city looking for the best new places to eat, whether that be a food truck near downtown or a 5 star in Santa Monica.

Since myFanbase is an online magazine about TV shows, we would like to know what your favorite shows are?

Currently my favorite shows are "Bloodline", "Narcos" and "American Crime Story: The People vs OJ Simpson"... I just got a Netflix account... Clearly.

Thank you so much for making time for us, Joe, we wish you all the best!
