Interview with Colin Ferguson
We hat the opportunity to do an interview with Colin Ferguson, who plays the leading role in "Eureka". He told us about his passion besides acting, his casting for Eureka and his thoughts on science in general.

1. When and why did you decide to become an actor?
I started out doing comedy in bars and messing around in theatre but that was something that just sort of happened. I made the decision to go into acting later. It was actually during a drive across the country where I was trying to clear my head
2. What is your favorite memory of your childhood?
Playing hockey in the alley behind our house.
3. You started your career on stage. What did you enjoy most about it and do you intend to return?
I like the autonomy of the stage. The outcome is what you do, as you do it. There is an immediacy and risk to theatre that I think is a fantastic rush.
4. If you could choose to put together an entire crew for a movie: Who would be the director? Who would be the writer? And who would be in the leading role(s)?
If I could put together a movie? The writer would be Robert Bolt or Paddy Chayefsky - yes, I know they're dead. And the actors and directors would be whoever was best for the project. Hopefully someone massive like Soderbergh would want to do it.
5. You and Jordan Hinson are confirmed guests at the FedCon 2009, which will take place in Bonn, Germany. This is not your first convention, what do you like about them?
I like the direct contact with the fans. I spend a good amount of my year involved with Eureka in one way or another, so I like the moments where you get to meet the audience you're performing for and talk about all the good and bad things that happened.
6. How long are you going stay in Germany or Europe? Is there anything you want to do while you stay here?
I haven't planned the trip but I hope to stay in Germany for a couple of weeks and tour around. I think I'll let Germany tell me what I should see.
7. Did you enjoy playing the bad guy on NBCs Anthology "Fear Itself"?
I loved Fear Itself. I love playing psychos and I got to work with Grant Rosenberg again - who did season 2 of Eureka. So it was good all around.
8. When you first read the script of "Eureka" what did you think?
The original script of Eureka was really interesting and much darker than the show. It was the middle of pilot season and I don't tend to overthink anything until I have the audition, but I liked it a lot. It had a tone that Hollywood doesn't make very often.
9. Do you remember your audition for "Eureka"? What can you tell us about it?
The audition went great. Mary Jo Slater and Steve Brooksbank were casting and Jaime was in the room. It was strange because I assumed that the part would go to someone who plays things a bit more straight than I do. I was surprised when they liked what I did.
10. You directed an episode of "Eureka". Would you like to spend more time behind the camera? Do you have any ambitions to work as a writer in the future, too?
I would love to direct more and to work WITH a writer but don't feel the drive to write something on my own right now. I have written a lot in the past but just don't feel like it right now. But I would love to and intend on directing more and more.
11. How do you feel about the development of the relationship between Allison and Jack?
I respect how slowly the writers have taken the relationship. I was vocal early on about not wanting to end up consummating the relationship and am glad that we haven't really had that moment. Mostly I enjoy their friendship. That's always where I wanted to start with those two.
12. Can you give us some scoop about what’s going to happen on "Eureka"
I have no idea what season you guys are in so I can't really talk about a "scoop" ..... but I'd tell you whatever you'd like to know.
13. Do you have any idea if "Eureka" is getting a fourth season?
I have no idea if Eureka is going to get a forth season - but season 3 is 18 epsiodes... so there's stuff coming down the pipe.
14. Are there funny experiences you made on set that you can tell us about?
We have lots of good times on set but unfortunately most of them don't make great print stories. If you see me at a bar ask me there. I'll tell you some set stories.
15. Science is a big deal on the show. What is your opinion about it? Is the increasing automation and the unstoppable spread of technology in our lives a good or a bad thing?
Scientific advance is always a good thing. Where I get nervous is that we spend less and less time marrying Big Science to morals and ethics - so I'm not sure who's driving the bus at times. It'd be refreshing to see more open discussions by groups without clear agendas.
16. Do you have any new projects you can tell us about?
I'm just wrapping up season 3 so I hope not. But I'm hearing that I'm going to direct a TV movie so that'll be fun.
17. Since myFanbase is an online magazine about TV series, do you have a favorite one?
A favorite TV series? Garth Marenghi's Dark Place. It cracks me up.
