"Banshee" interview with Geno Segers
February 20, 2015 | Chayton Littlestone is the nightmare haunting "Banshee" in season 3. The leader of the Kinaho gang Redbones is 6'3" and about 270lbs of muscle. Skin elaborately decorated with tribal tattoos, mesmerizing deep full voice, pained eyes reflecting all the wrong his tribe had to endure. Chayton is an angry warrior with a unwavering sense of righteousness. Geno Segers brings this extremely intelligent and thoroughly honest Kinaho leader to life with a lot of sure instinct. On the heels of the brutal and gut-wrenching events in the middle of "Banshee" season 3 the impressive actor Geno Segers, who is almost the complete opposite of Chayton, made time to answer our questions about Chayton, his actions and his character development. And of course we also talked to him a little about his guest appearance as a werewolf on "Teen Wolf".
Spoiler alert: The interview contains massive spoilers on "Banshee" season 3 up to #3.06 and a mild spoiler on "Teen Wolf" season 3.
German translation of the interview.
1. You went from playing Rugby in New Zealand to doing radio promos to playing Mufasa in a stage production of "The Lion King" to playing a dad on Disney's comedy "Pair of Kings". Do all of these experiences factor in to your portrayal of Redbones warrior Chayton Littlestone on "Banshee"?
Wow, great question. Yes all my experiences helped. I believe that everything you do in your past helps you become who you are now. Acting for me is the ability to command your feelings in a believable way while in a situation thats not real, so the more real life experiences you have to draw from the better.
2. Showrunner Greg Yaitanes said in an interview "The intimacy of fighting is evoking some sort of emotional connection. The fact that it's so intimate, Lucas craves that." Don't you think Chayton and Lucas are very similar in that aspect?
Yes, I feel that both of them are warriors and see the intimate side of fighting and almost believe the only way to really know a person is to fight them.
3. Chayton is all about "blood for blood" when he comes to the Cadi to avenge the murder of his brother Tommy. But that was Raven, why (oh why) kill Siobhan in that intimate, close up and personal way making it that much more personal for Hood?
Uhhhhh because the writers wrote it, Smile. Chayton has lost the only person he trusted, his brother. Yes its all about blood for blood at this time, yet Chayton could not have known the relationship between Hood and Siobhan, so he’s taking what he believes is just another solider out in this war.
4. After #3.05 Tribal you said "don't hate Geno, hate Chayton" and of course we hate Chayton for what he did, but we also love Chayton because of his pained eyes, his honesty and his intensity. What do admire about this character?
That he believes with his heart. Chayton believes he is right 1000%
5. "Banshee" features a bunch of amazingly strong women and their action scenes are second to none. Olek vs Ana, Rebecca vs Longshadow, Nola vs Burton... Siobhan didn't have much of a chance against Chayton but if it were a fair fight, who would you step into the ring with?
If you are asking about a strong woman to fight I would have to say Nola. Chayton and Nola are equals, I believe it would be a great fight. As for the guys, I’d want Chayton and Burton. It would be close but I feel like Chayton would win only by a hair.
6. Talking about Hood and Chayton Antony Starr said in an interview: "One of the challenges has been making each fight fresh, and coming up with a new approach to each fight." Which one was your favorite to shoot?
I’d have to say the 1st fight in the Redbones trailer. It was complex and so involved I almost lost track of time.
7. Do Chayton's tattoos tell a story and is there any one of them you would keep for real?
All of them tell a story, Chayton would never do anything for the sake of trends or fashion. No, I would never have a tattoo, I have enough marks on my body from playing sports.
8. Can you tell us the story behind the photo of Chayton and the Albino fighting?
We were both working that day and Greg wanted a fantasy shot. Sorry no real story to tell. I will say this however, Joe Gatt and I are good friends and hang out from time to time. He said to me about that picture "I don’t know how it is I look your size when you are way bigger then me" Hahahaha I said "thats hollywood magic". Joe is about 190-200lbs and I’m about 270lbs but one half step down stage makes all the difference.

9. The Fanshees are an incredibly passionate fandom and we so much appreciate you guys being on Twitter every week for the episodes. How do you experience the interaction with cast and fans on social media?
I love and hate social media all at the same time. Love that I can talk to fans all over the world, hate that it takes hours for me to type 10 words…… big fingers are a disadvantage. Hahaha
10. What did you learn on the set of "Banshee" that you will always keep close to your heart?
What I learn from every set I’m on, this business is about the people on all levels. In the NBA, you can win it all with 3 top players, in the NFL all you need is a solid run game and a great defense. But in show business, you need everybody from the top to the bottom to pull off movie magic, and Banshee along with the team at Cinemax and HBO were nothing short of magical.
11. On "Teen Wolf" you had this very strong moment when Kincaid gave voice to what everyone was thinking: Scott having the eyes of an Alpha but not the strength. What was the best part of working on this incredibly fun and compelling show (aside from not being killed and thus having the chance to come back)?
Truly it was the 1st time I was able to work on a show that was timed perfectly with my "Pair Of Kings" audience. All the kids that knew me as Mason jumped out of their seats when they saw Kincaid for the 1st time. It was really nice to see how excited the POK / TW fans were.
12. Since myFanbase is an online magazine about U.S. television shows, we would like to know what your favorite shows are?
Well outside of the ones I work on because I am a real FANSHEE myself, I'd have to say "Empire", "The Walking Dead", "Scandal", "The Following" and "Game of Thrones".
Thank you for making time for us, Geno, we wish you all the best for your future!
