Interview with John Hensley - Part 2

Before I'll ask you the questions from your fans, I'll have my own personal fan question:

8. You played "Eric Scatino" in one of my favourite shows "The Sopranos". Was your character planed for just one episode? Because I would have loved to see more from you as Meadow's boyfriend.

"The Sopranos" was in a lot of ways my first real acting job in New York, and to this day the people that work on that show remain in my mind as some of the nicest I've come across. Let me tell you, to have that as your first gig is scary. If for no other reason, because of the caliber of actors they have working on that thing. I felt like a little kid who had stepped outside of his league. But, on my first day, everyone on that set made me feel completely welcome, which is something that has stayed with me... As far as I know, Eric was planned for only that one episode, but I'd go back to that set in a heartbeat if they'd have me. It might be kind of cool to see him return, a little grown up, and a little pissed at Tony.

9. Melanie asks: Why do you think is Nip/Tuck such a hit, although the show is so disputed because of the operations in it?

That's a tough question... I think one of the reasons the show has been well received is because it's an idea that is so of the moment. Meaning it's relevant to our current times and the unhealthy obsession people seem to have with outer appearance, when perhaps they should be more concerned with the substance of life. It's a show that I think serves as a bit of a cautionary tell, and maybe that's something people respond to.

10. Andreas asks: Germany is currently hosting the soccer world cup, are you interested in soccer? If you are, who do you think will win this cup?

Well, Andreas because I was so late in getting these questions back to you I think we all know the answer to that one. And maybe for a moment, I might have put my money on France, but it's a good thing I didn't, huh?

11. Patrick asks: Why did you choose you want to be an actor? Was there an actor you "wanted to be like”? And with whom would you like to work (director or actor)?

Since I was little, I've always been captivated by a good story. And from that I think grew a desire to tell them. As far as "wanting to be like" another actor... I don't know, honestly. There are many actors whose work I admire, but I believe at the end of the day you have to bring to the table your own contribution, whatever that may be. As for the list of people I'd like to work with, there are many... Quite frankly, too many to list here.

12. Barbara asks: Have you seen "Brokeback Mountain”? Would that have been a role you'd like to play or would it have been to subversive?

I try to welcome subversive stories. I feel they are important, sometimes vitally so. Would I have liked to played that role? I think had I been given that opportunity, yes. But, as anyone who has seen that movie will agree, I think it was told beautifully by those who were in it.

13. Riemi asks: In Season 1 you had a scene where you had sex with two girls. Was it strange for you to play this?

At first, yes it was... That was a first for me. But, I do try to embrace scenes that I may not be initially comfortable with. From those moments I think you can learn a little more about what you'll step up to do when asked. And, it certainly didn't hurt that the two girls happened to be just as uncomfortable, and quite beautiful, as well.

14. Elsa asks: Are you and the other actors are good friends off-set?

I have to say that the set of Nip/Tuck is one of the friendliest sets I've worked on. We all work well together, and for the most part have a good laugh... And, after four seasons there is a feeling of family there. But, socially everyone kind of has their own thing going on. That being said, do I regard the other actors as friends... Yeah, I do.
