Exclusive interview with Aarón Díaz

October 28, 2016 | In fall 2016 ABC's "Quantico" returned with all new episodes of season 2, shifting the story from the FBI to the CIA. Aarón Díaz plays the new major recurring role of Léon Velez who was a photographer but is now recruited by the CIA and starts his training at the farm. Aarón Díaz is best known for his career in Mexican telenovelas and kindly tells us a little bit about his life and his work.

You grew up in Puerto Vallarta and Palo Alto. What were your hobbies? Did you do school plays or sports?

Always enjoyed the outdoors.. When I was growing up, the ocean and everything associated with the ocean/water were my favorite. Surf, wake boarding , fishing, scuba.. I played soccer throughout my school years..

Before you started acting you were going to study Hospitality Management, right? What made you change your mind?

Acting was my destiny.. Never considered it growing up until i accidentally came uppon it at age 20.. I was out of school for the summer and was invited to join Televisa's acting school.. Shortly after that, a producer auditioned the whole school for his new show and I got chosen to participate.. That's where my career started.


You played in many Mexican tv shows and telenovelas. Which role is your all time favorite?

I always love the roles I am interpreting at that time the most. But the characters that have a lot of action would be the most fun for me.

When did you choose to try out for an American show? Is it different to act in English now?

I'm Mexican-American so i grew up speaking both Spanish and English, to me it's the same.

Since this fall you play the role of Léon Velez in "Quantico". He is a very mysterious man. Do you think Léon has a lot of secrets?

He definitely has a lot of secrets.. wait until you discover them, I think your gonna be very surprised.

It seems like there is something going on between Léon and Dayana Mampasi. Would you like the two of them to fall in love?

There is definitely something happening there, don't know if it's necessarily something romantic though.

You are not only an actor but also a singer. What is your inspiration? Will there be a third album?

I love music.. it's always been in my life, even before becoming an actor. However, what I make a living from is acting.

Last year you lived in Italy where your wife Lola had a job as an opera singer. Do the two of you sometimes sing together?

We have made a few songs together but I prefer to listen to her sing.. it's on a whole other level..

Another one of your hobbies is photography. Is it a coincidence that your character in "Quantico" is also a photographer?

It is a coincidence.. like I said,I like to express myself in as many ways possible.. sometimes acting, other times singing, I also love to paint, etc..

You visited a lot of places all over the world. Where would you like to go next?

I don't have a specific place in mind.. I like to go whith the flow ;)

Since myFanbase is an online magazine about tv shows, we would like to know what your favorite shows are?

So many great shows.. "24 - Twenty Four" is one of my all time favorites.. think it paved the path to a lot of what's on the air now.
