Fan Art interview with Elisa Bruno

"Without drawing I feel empty, because I believe that the foundation of my whole life has to do with creativity. In your art you can show who you really are."

What is fan art for you and does your style reflect something about your relationship to the character you are painting or drawing?

First of all, hello Nicki and thank you for this opportunity! Well, Fan art for me is something popular but with my own style. It's a way to open up to others and to connect with them. When I get excited about a movie/anime/tv show I am the first to look for fan arts on the internet, I find them interesting, the best form by which the artists can express themselves.

I love most of the characters I draw, but it's clear that I focus my attention - and therefore my style is more accurate - on a character I love. I would draw anyway a character I don't really like but in a superficial way. As you can probably see in my drawings, for example, I adore Louis and Philippe and they are the ones that I draw with more care, more love, trying to best represent the expressions based on their nature. I have decided to create "innovative" chibi so they're different from the chibi that you've surely seen around - you know, the ones with a huge head and big eyes - so my chibi have two bottuns as eyes, and precisely because in my opinion the eyes are the epitome of expression, I try to focus on special poses and the objects around the characters.

What are the easiest and the hardest parts of the artistic process?

I think that for every artist this is very subjective. I will tell you that the hardest part for me is to sketch the idea of the drawing. As when studying, I think the hardest part is to get up and open the book, then once you start reading ... it's done! Most of the time the final idea comes to my head just as I'm sketching, and in the end the result is something totally different from what I had imagined! The easiest part is ... to share the drawing! :P No, I'm joking! I think it's to give the finishing touches, shadows, reflexes on the hair, and various decorations.

Do you feel like with fan art you can put a lot of yourself into a piece, tell your own story?

Absolutely yes. My drawings are my life. I have said many times that without drawing I feel empty, because I believe that the foundation of my whole life has to do with creativity. In your art you can show who you really are, but it's up to the public to know when and how to see it: in my chibi I show my sweetest, tender, and even the most sparkling and funny part (and then let's face it, I'm small and a bit tiny, so I'm a chibi myself!) In my non-chibi I show the most mature part of me, and sometimes the most hidden one.

What is it about Versailles that inspires you and draws you to share your art with the Versailles Family?

I started to draw Versailles chibi by pure chance. I remember the first promotional pictures of the first season of Versailles - the ones with the fire - and I wanted to create an animated chibi based on them. As I was drawing I told myself "What if I make it comic"? And that's how my chibi were born. Seeing my first gif shared by some members of the cast made me really happy, so I would say that there are so many things to inspire me: the magnificent cast, my wonderful Versailles family, the set, the costumes ... they are magnificent.

When I finish a drawing I can not wait to share it with my Versailles family, and the reason is obvious but true: Making them smile makes me smile too. The support that all of you give me is absurd, magnificent, being so appreciated is one of the main reasons I love to draw ... first of all it's a satisfaction for myself, but it wouldn't be half as meaningful if there wasn't any support and affection.

Which is your favourite piece or style (of your own) and why?

If we talk about Versailles, perhaps for affection, I would say that the first gif (see below) - even if it's a bit old and low quality - is the one I care about the most. If we talk in a general way, I'm telling you that everyday, the last drawing I made, is my favorite because it shows all the improvements and new techniques I'm learning.

And last but not least, what are your favorite TV shows and what do you enjoy about them?

Ahh, my favorite tv shows ... there are so many! Merlin, Stranger Things, Humans, Game of Thrones. Versailles, Vikings and Sherlock. There would be many others but these are the ones I look forward to! With the first ones I was sure I would have liked them because I LOVE fantasy and adventure and the plots are pretty intriguing. With Versailles and Vikings, I rediscovered the historic side that, to say the truth, I never really liked, but the exceptional casts allowed me to appreciate it most! With Sherlock I rediscovered my detective side, so ... just know that I'm watching you!

Thank you for the chat, Elisa!

A big HUG to all of you, my dear Versaills Family, and thank you Nicki, you rock, girl!
